Story of the lost bibliolage

About a year after creating this bibliolage I was looking for it on the shelves where I keep these things, but I could not find it. I vaguely remembered bringing it somewhere to show someone, so maybe. . . . Or perhaps I took it to my office for scanning. . . . Or maybe. . .

I thought it was lost. Then one day I was looking for something else, and I noticed an old leather . . . I'm not sure what it's called. It's the sort of thing you imagine a gentleman or lady bringing along in the carriage ride to someone's country house. It has the sort of lock you used to see on diaries. Inside you would keep your stationery for writing letters and other private papers. I found this somewhere or another and then I had this stroke of genius that I might use it as a protective container for The Netsuke at Mono Lake. Then I forgot all about it.

So recently I was looking for something else and I stumbled on this old portfolio (?), and sure enough, there was the book. I had been feeling the loss sorely because I had never even scanned any of the images. When I thought it was gone for good, I acquired the same source materials and recreated the piece. It is interesting to compare the two works:
